| When do we open and when do we close? | ||
| We are open Monday to Friday 8 till 6. The Nursery will close annually between Christmas and New Year, Good Friday, Easter Monday and respective bank holidays. | ||
| Who looks after your children? | ||
| Your child will be looked after by our team of fully qualified Nursery Nurses. | ||
| Mealtimes? | ||
We
provide breakfast, dinner and tea, a biscuit with milk midmorning and fresh
fruit juice mid afternoon. All foods are prepared on the premises, these
are wholesome and nutritious, |
||
| How many children do we look after? | ||
| The nursery is registered for no more than 44 children on any given day. We cater for 18 children under 2 years and 26 children over 2 years. | ||
| Do you have a settling in process? | ||
We
appreciate this can be a very emotional time for both parent and child,
especially if they have never been separated from you before. Prior to their
starting date we will arrange for you and your child to visit the nursery
to familiarize yourselves with the surroundings. Initially this will be
for an hour or two, gradually building up to include any snack time. When
all parties feel happy and secure with the situation, the child may start
at the nursery. Obviously we realise that all parents and children are different
and this will reflect in the arrangements. |
| Do we have facilities for babies ? | ||
| Our baby unit is registered for 18 children under the age of 2. However, we have a separate baby unit for children between the age of 3 months and 12 months. There will be six babies in this unit being cared for by two Nursery Nurses. The room is equipped with sleeping and changing facilities as well as a wide range of age appropriate toys. | ||
The
room also has the advantage of having a small self contained kitchen. Mealtimes
will vary according to the age of your baby. For younger babies we will
try to keep their established routine. We ask for babies still drinking
from bottles that all feeds should be provided, ready made in marked bottles.
Solid meal will be provided by us and we will be happy to liquidise during
the weaning process. Dietary requirements will also be adheres to. Depending
on individual development and needs, your child will be moved up to the
'toddlers' room. This room caters for the older babies, with a wide range
of toys and activities more suited to their age. |
| We would ask that you provide your own nappies, wipes and creams ensuring there are plenty for each day. | ||
| What do we offer ? | ||
Although
we like all of the children to mix on a daily basis, they will be allocated
to a room according to their age and ability. Children start to learn about
the world around them from the moment they are born The care and education
offered by Mary Poppins Day Nursery helps children to continue to do this
by providing all of the children with interesting activities that are right
for their age and stage of development. For children between the ages of
3 and 5 years, the Nursery nursery provides a curriculum for the foundation
stage of education. This curriculum is set out in a document, published
by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority and the Department for Education
and Skills, and Skills, and called 'Curriculum guidance for the foundation
stage'. Mary Poppins Day Nursery follows this guidance. |
||
| The guidance divides children's learning and
development into six areas: Personal, social and emotional development Communication, language and literacy development Mathematical development Knowledge and understanding of the world Physical development Creative development |
||
| For each area, the guidance sets out early learning goals. These goals state what is expected that child will know and be able to do by the end of the reception year of their education. | ||
| For each early learning goal the guidance sets out 'stepping stones' which describe the stages through which children are likely to pass as they move to achievement of the goal. Mary Poppins Day Nursery uses the early learning goals and their stepping stones to help us to Trace each child's progress and to enable us to provide the right activities to help all of the children move towards achievement of the early learning goals. |
| The emphasis on working towards the Early Learning Goals will always be on fun based activities. | ||
| Do we have an outdoor play area ? | ||
| We do. We have a lovely 'all weather ' garden. The turf has been replaced with an artificial grass, which is sterile, porous and meets with the standard requirement for critical fall height. The garden is equipped with a climbing frame, gazebo and a variety of outdoor toys. | ||
| All the children in the nursery, irrespective of age, are given the opportunity to use the garden on a daily basis. | ||
